SPEAK THE WORD ONLY
The “word” is at the very heart of christianity and our spiritual being.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (I John 1: 1-3). This is the spiritual holy trinity: God the Father; Jesus Christ His son, the expression or manifestation of the word; and the Word itself, the Truth. A trinity of Life, Love, and Truth, yet it is in essence one thing. One all-powerful, all-loving, all-knowing, eternal God. God is the creator, the head of the trinity: Jesus Christ, and the spiritual Truth that he taught, are the two operational arms of the one God. In the beginning, that is, before mankind and the creation of the universe, only eternal divine Mind, or God and His spiritual ideas existed. Then the universe was created by divine Mind.
“Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth”(James 1: 8).
Divine Mind chose to beget His children, His ideas. Since God is not a corporeal person, the children He begat can not be corporeal either: they must be spiritual beings. Hence, the real children of God are not material beings, they are eternal spiritual ideas, the image and likenesses of God's thoughts, dwelling in infinite Mind. Like God's thoughts His children have no beginning or end. They are unique bodies of spiritual thoughts, or souls, reflecting the attributes of God.
The ‘word’ is divine Thought and it is our spiritual guide and the means to attaining eternal life. It sustains us spiritually and meets our every human need.
“Speak the word only and my servant shall be healed” (Matt 8:5).
This was a statement of absolute faith by the centurion. It is this unquestioning faith in the word of God which we too must hold to if we would be healed. The centurion's love of God and his servant facilitated the transmission in divine Mind of the healing word of God. The ‘word of Truth’ is the only word we should speak to God in our silent prayer if we wish to be healed. As servants of God we must acknowledge His supremacy in all things.
The expression of the thought (or word) by Jesus that the centurion's servant was the perfect and beloved child of God was all that was needed to effect a healing. The divine Mind, in which we all live and move and have our spiritual being, transmitted that thought of spiritual perfection to the servant and his consciousness was uplifted. The veil of his mortal mind was lifted and his spiritual consciousness or soul was once again able to reflect God's perfection. The faith of the centurion and his love for his servant combined with the faith of the servant was all that was needed. The servant’s physical body responded to this message of pure and perfect love which he was listening for and open to, and he was healed. Faith and love can and will move mountains!
“The Lord was not in the wind, nor in the fire, nor in the earthquake: but after the earthquake; a still small voice”(I Kings 19). The Lord is not in any physical activity, nor is He in any disease or physical body. The Lord is the ‘word’: the still, small, calming and healing word. Be still, calm your fears, and listen for the ‘word’.
The ‘word’ must completely occupy your thoughts every moment of the day, if you are to destroy the seeming power of mortal mind that would hold you captive. The ‘word’ that heals is the knowledge that there is no power apart from God.
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (2 Cor. 10:4).
“Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”(2 Cor. 10:5).
Our struggle is with a mortal mind that wants to dominate our consciousness blocking out God. It can only be overcome by the Word, by the absolute power of God. Divine Mind casts down mortal mind from the pedestal on which we have placed it and exposes its false imaginings about its power over us. The Truth, or knowledge of God, brings our thoughts back into alignment with the teachings of Christ and restores harmony to the soul and body. It sweeps away the mists of mortal mind which would stop us reflecting the perfection of divine Mind. Your physical body will obey the mind that controls it, whether that mind is divine or mortal. If we choose divine Mind our body will be harmonious.
The mortal mind dwells on the idea of sickness, fatigue, heart irregularities and cancer, etc. It then transmits instructions to replicate the symptoms of that idea which it has learned from other mortal minds to the appropriate body organ. That organ then reports pain and inflammation back to the brain thus reinforcing mortal minds original belief. When we realize that the material senses have been misdirected, the imagining that we are captive to sin, disease and death will be 'cast down‘ and harmony will be restored. Physical science has discovered the process of creating induced pluripotency stem cells from existing cells which can then be reprogrammed to replace diseased and worn out cells in the body. This has the potential to be able to replace the need for transplants in the future. Prayer can achieve the same end by reprogramming the soul. When the spiritual man is in tune with God the body will follow suit and return to a healthy condition.
Divine Mind destroys the power of mortal mind, overrides mortal minds previous instructions regarding the material senses and thereby restores harmony to the body and soul. Nothing is impossible to divine Mind: “with man this is impossible but with God all things are possible”(Matt 19: 26).
These imaginings of mortal mind and their innocent transmission to others must be opposed by knowing the Truth that makes us free. This Truth is that God is all-powerful and that mortal mind is powerless. This knowing is achieved by prayer and that we must do diligently everyday to protect ourselves and our loved ones: to be in tune with God.
Whenever mortal mind claims to have caused an effect on man it is a lie, a deception brought about by that mind trying to show that it is god-like; it is a belief in self-ego. Mortal mind is not wise; is not true; is not lovely; is not life and does no lasting good. Divine Mind is the only intelligence, cause and effect. Divine Mind is the only Ego. Under its governance the heart muscles will perform correctly, the tumour will dissolve, the cartilage will rejuvenate. Only good comes from knowing God. What comfort, power and strength this realization gives.
“For in Him we live and move and have our being: for we are also His offspring” (Acts 17:28).This description of our existence as being in God can only mean that our life is a spiritual one because God is not a physical being or place. God's idea, lives, moves and has its being in the consciousness or realm of divine Mind. These spiritual functions and attributes which are our real existence are reflected in our physical ones.
Our prayer should be : ‘speak the word only God and thy servant will be healed’.
Divine Mind alone ensures our heart beats regularly, our muscles perform perfectly and our lives are harmonious.
In Truth, we may pray with confidence: “The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me” (Psalms 128:8).
