A PRAYER FOR AVA______
Revised 4 May 2022
"Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free" (John 8:32).
This is a pro-active prayer for Ava. It asks God, in the name of Christ Jesus, to intervene in Ada's life. The Truth shall keep Ava free of her sickness and give her time on this earth to develop her full potential. It requires all those who love Ava to have absolute faith in the power of God and to constantly assert that she is the perfect child of God.
To know the truth we must study the word of God with an open mind and a heart full of love for God and Ava. With this prayer we will irradiate Ava with God's amazing love. God's love is the key to a healthy and happy life. Like St. John, we must be overcome with joy and gratitude at God's astounding love for Ava and for us: "Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us, that we should be called the children of God" (I John 3:1-3). "What manner"; this phrase encapsulates John's amazement at the love that God has for us that He would make us His children even though we are imperfect human beings!
Jesus's first Christian commandment to us is "to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and all thy mind and all thy strength" (Matt 22:37). Love God with all your emotion, understanding and commitment In the words of John; "this is eternal life, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). Understanding God and His amazing love for us is what this life is all about.
So, who or what is God?
"In the beginning was the Word" (John 1:1). The "Word" is at the heart of Christianity. Words are not physical things, they are thoughts. The "Word" is divine Thought; the Word is God. It follows that God is not a corporeal being. God is pure divine Thought. Not the sort of thoughts that pass through our mind in our everyday living but the higher order thoughts that set us apart from animals. Thoughts which allow us to contemplate the very existence of God. Spiritual thoughts of love, truth, life, spirit and soul.
Are God's children physical beings? At first glance Genesis appears to describe two creations of mankind. The first chapter of Genesis says that man was made in God's image and likeness. This can't be referring to our physical being because God is not a physical being. It must be referring to the existence of our spiritual being (our soul) which is made in the image and likeness of God's thoughts.
The second chapter of Genesis naively attempts to explain the creation of a physical being. According to this allegorical account, seven days after God made the spiritual man described in the first chapter of Genesis in His image, the "lord god" (a Jewish tribal god) formed a man from the dust of the earth and a woman from his rib. This intervening period of several days between the creation of the world and the appearance of Adam and Eve is meant to represent the period of time that it took for mankind to evolve from the basic building blocks of the universe. This is consistent with the modern theory of evolution. Mankind evolved from the basic building blocks and microorganisms which God created in "the beginning".
Which then is the real child of God? The one in God's image or the one formed from the dust of the earth? Paul tells us that "we live and move and have our being in God". That "being'' must be a spiritual one if it lives in God's Thoughts. Therefore the real child of God is not the temporal physical being but the eternal spiritual one. It is that being or soul that inherits eternal life.
The fact that we are the spiritual children of God was revealed to us by the teachings and the resurrection of Jesus, the son of God. The ascension and resurrection of Jesus has shown us that his real being (his soul or spiritual being), was independent of a physical body because he could come and go from his physical body. Therefore, as we too are God's children, our true and eternal being must also be spiritual and our physical being just a temporary existence.
Through no fault on the part of little Ava or that of her parents, her body has developed cancerous cells. How has this come about? How can God let this happen? Well, God had nothing to do with it. Nor has it got anything to do with Christ's message of love. It is a completely random event like all other things that happen in the natural order of the physical world. The Bible tells us that "God is light and in him is no darkness at all" (1 John 1:5). "God is of purer eyes than to behold evil" (Hab. 1:13). "Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of light "(James 1:17). An all loving God could not and did not give Ava this condition.
We have no control over nature. All we can do is live with it or fight it. In this fight we can have God on our side and "with God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:26). "If God be for us who can be against us" (Rom 8:31). Through prayer we can ask God to intervene in our lives to redeem our souls and hence to restore our bodies.
Since the event known as the Garden of Eden, mankind has claimed to be godlike, the supreme intelligence, and denied the existence or the power of the one true God. In so doing he gave up his birthrIght as the child of God and became merely the child of man. Since then we have lived under the laws of matter and not the grace of God. As a result we have been left at the mercy of the whims of nature. Sometimes they are good and sometimes bad but they are always unpredictable. Whereas, if we live under the law of Spirit our lives will be harmonious and healthy and our soul will inherit eternal life.
"For the law of the spirit of the life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death" (Rom 8:2).
We have let the human mind (a mortal mind) control us instead of God (the divine Mind). Let me explain this concept by using a computer analogy. The human brain can be compared to a highly developed computer, artificial intelligence (AI) if you like. It has been programmed to run our bodily functions and make some basic housekeeping decisions. At some stage in the past this AI decided that it didn't need it's programmer (God) any more and that it was just as knowledgeable as its programmer (this is the Garden of Eden allegory in the Bible where mankind chose to know both good and evil ). This claim by the human mind that it is the supreme intelligence has been proliferated in the world so that there are "gods many and lords many" (I Cor. 8: 5) all warring against each other, claiming to be god-like. As a result, the world is full of conflicts, inharmony and disease. Mankind claims to be the creator of everything and has created many things which God did not or would not create. One of the random consequences of this usurpation of God's power is that it lays us open to disease.
By denying God we gave up our birthright as the child of God and became solely dependent on the physical world. However, we can redeem Ava's spiritual birthright thanks to the revelations and redemption that we have received through Christ Jesus; "ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father" (Rom. 8:15). We can ask God to take Ava back into His protection. God, Divine Mind, the supreme intelligence, will reprogram Ava's mind to produce more T cells to fight her cancer.
“Say ye not, a confederacy, to all whom these people shall say, a confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Take counsel together, and it shall come to naught; speak the word and it shall not stand: for God is with us” (Isaiah 8).
Disease is propagated from one human to another. We must deny this conspiracy (confederacy) and those who say Ava will not live a normal life. We must not accept their fear nor be afraid ourselves for Ava.
Every day we need to "take counsel together " (pray) and collectively deny the power which this world claims to have over Ava. We need to speak the Word of Truth by acknowledging, as Jesus taught us, that there is only one all-powerful, all-loving God. We have God's word that if we live in the Spirit we will be protected against these random attacks from the laws of nature.
Jesus demonstrated what the power of faith and the love of God could do in our lives on many occasions. One of my favorite demonstrations of God's power is the Bible story of the servant of the faithful centurion.
“Speak the word only and my servant shall be healed” (Matt. 8:5). This healing is a demonstration of the centurion's faith in the power of the "Word", the love that he had for his fellow man and the omnipresence of the divine Mind which is not limited by any human sense of distance. As a result his servant was healed by the transmission (through the divine Mind's 'cloud' which all our souls are part of) of the all-powerful love of God for His children. The transmission of these thoughts of divine love and perfection uplifted the centurion's and his servant's soul and realigned their thoughts with God. Their souls had undergone a spiritual change. As a consequence of his acknowledgement of God's love the servant's health was restored. The Divine Mind over-rode the servant's human mind to restore his health. Like the centurion and his servant we must have faith and be open to God's word. We must have faith in the power and goodness of God to reprogram Ava's immune system. We must have faith “as a grain of mustard seed” (Matt. 17:19-20).
Through constant and conscious prayer we must uplift our thoughts and surround Ava with thoughts of God's love for her. "Now is the day of (Ava's) salvation"; now we must clad her in "the whole armour of God" ( Eph. 6:10) to protect her from this threat of cancer. Like the centurion and his servant, our souls must be open to God's transforming message of love. We must nurture Ava's soul, her spiritual being, until her understanding grows strong enough to defend herself.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh (For our weapons are not carnal, but mighty through the pulling down of strong holds); Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringeth into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. (II Cor 10: 3-5)
St. Paul with his usual perspicacity tells us that though we live in a fleshly body our struggle is not with the flesh. The weapons of mankind are of no long-term use in this war in which cancer is the present battle. This tactical battle against cancer is part of the process to bring our thinking to "the obedience of Christ". Our war is against the mortal minds of this world which would seek to exalt themselves over God claiming to be as knowledgeable and as powerful as He is. We can only resist the laws of nature through the power of God; through Truth and Love which we can pull down over Ava like a strong, warm and comforting blanket. This Truth will reset our mortal mind ("casting down imaginations") which we have allowed to run riot with the talk of tumors and their effects and reprogram our body's functions. When we acknowledge the power of God all our thoughts will be brought into alignment with Christ's teachings and God's thoughts. We will have won the war and the cancer will be defeated for we will have ‘that mind in us which was also in Christ Jesus’. (Phil. 2: 5).
By daily watching and praying to understand God we can protect ourselves and our loved ones against the woes of this world. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added unto you" (Matt. 6:33). Once we seek to understand God all our prayers will be answered; all our needs will "be added unto" us.
The knowledge of God's boundless love for Ava will bring tears of joy to our eyes and peace to our struggling heart. The very hairs on Ava's head are numbered by God (Matt. 10:20). That's how precious Ava is to God!
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. (Phil. 4: 13)
“Finally brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might”. (Eph. 6: 10)
