I attended a funeral yesterday where the vicar emphasized the fact that we would meet Jesus and our loved ones in Heaven. Comforting as that is there is not likely to be any physical recognition as such. Why? Because God is not a corporeal being. God is divine or creative thought. These thoughts are not the thoughts which drive the basic human functions or emotions. These are higher order thought which contain all knowledge and are eternal. The Bible tells us that we are made un the likeness of God. This "likeness" is referring to our soul as being a reflection of God, a unique reflection of the ideas of the divine Mind. Our human consciousness in turn reflects our soul. When our human form dies the reflection of our soul fades from human consciousness, but our soul always remains intact in the divine Mind. Our soul is not God, but it is an indivisible part of God. Our souls "live and move and have their being" in the divine Mind. The earthly hope that Jesus has given us is that we will meet his soul and those of our loved ones in heaven. This heaven is the divine Mind and yes, the souls of our loved ones will be present there. Whether it will still be important for us to be able to recognize them of not is debatable since all our souls are part of the one all-knowing, all-loving divine Mind. Death will bring a joyous reunion with the divine Mind.
